The HI-POD UK4 is quite versatile when it comes to types of cameras that work with it. Almost all cameras have a video out port. That makes it so you can see what the camera sees. What limits the choice of camera for the HI-POD, is not the video out, but the ability to control the lens and record functions of the camera from many feet below. The traditional way to do this is thru the LANC protocol. (Basically it is a small jack on the camera that you plug into.) This port allows the HI-POD operator to use a controller to control the camera functions.
When choosing a camera make sure that the camera has LANC, or L-control or a remote jack. This will insure that your camera will work with the HI-POD. Sony invented this protocol. It is on many of their higher-end prosumer cameras. It is also used by Canon on most of its prosumer products. Do not assume that the camera has it. Ask before you buy.
